On Monday I took Beckett to Children’s here in KC for some pre-surgery test. CBC blood draw, Chest x-ray and vent clinic appointment with tracheal aspirate. By the end of our 2.5 hour visit I was exhausted from wrestling with Beckett, consoling him, drying tears and realizing just how much the coming weeks were going to suck!!! That same haunting question popped into my mind more than once…”Why me? Why Beckett?” But this is our life. This is God’s plan for us and while I might never understand it I am trying to walk through it with strength and faith and grace.
|Not happy about this band-aid...|
Our flight leaves next Wednesday, August 21st. Thursday, August 22nd Beckett will be seen by Dr. Jacobs (ENT), Dr. Piccone (Pulmonologist) and pre-anesthesia testing. Friday, August 23rd Beckett will head to the OR. From there likely 5-7 days in the ICU and then another 3-4 days in surgery recovery. Then we will return to the OR every week for bronchoscopes until cleared to return home.
So until then, I’m wrapping up work obligations, finalizing trip details, and ensuring all is taken care on the home front before we are wheels up for the East Coast. Not looking forward to the reality of coming weeks, but I am trying to focus on the image of Beckett with a “naked neck” and playing in the sand by the ocean with me
